Uwharrie Dance Center, under the direction of Blair Johnson, offers quality dance instruction to Montgomery County and the surrounding areas. Dance lessons not only teach different dance styles and techniques, they build life skills such as discipline, team work, coordination, creativity and physical fitness, as well as many other important skills. Dance is a wonderful expressive outlet and can be fun and challenging. UDC offers instruction in ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, cheerleading techniques, tumbling, creative movement, hip hop, & modern/contemporary. Dance technique is taught in all levels from recreational dance activities to performance and competitive opportunities, as well as professional dance training. Whatever the reason you decide to dance, Uwharrie Dance Center wants to find a place for you!
- Classes offered at UDC are as follows: ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, creative movement, contemporary, cheerleading, tumbling, musical theater, hip hop and adult dance class. Creative dance starts at age 3, while cheerleading, hip hop and tumbling start at age 5, jr. hip hop class starts at age 9.
- Classes are not necessarily based upon age, but by teacher recommendation.
- New students will start in their own age group for class. Ongoing attendance in classes each week is important for learning proper dance technique and preparing for performances such as the recital.
- NEW FOR THIS YEAR! Students enrolled in advanced dance courses are required to attend at least 70% of those scheduled classes. A teacher may pull a student out of a recital piece due to absences, so the class as a whole can proceed, finish and clean a routine. The same attendance policy is in place for any competitive dance or cheer team student.
Uwharrie Dance Center will not accept students after November 10th, 2016 in the monthly classes.
You may come and attend Zumba or Yoga classes anytime during the dance season. Zumba classes and Yoga classes are $5.00 per class.
Also, UDC offers Ballroom dance classes in 6 week sessions. $15.00 per couple or $8.00 for an individual.
Please note that schedules are subject to change.
